Sew Day!

Or Snow day, whatever you want to call it.

auntie and baby mukluks

Yay, we FINALLY had a snow day here. Zero visibility, whiteout conditions and they finally canceled school! And work. And the store. And every other place of business in town. So, basically we were all stuck in our houses, even the loaders gave up until the storm subsided.

I do have a garage can you see it!?

Which was around 2 pm today! And it is SO beautiful after a storm. Aside from the five feet of snow we have to SHOVEL to get out, its great. Powder riding, warm temperatures, sunny. Mother Nature's sorry letter for making us live in the north!

I don't know what other people do when its Snow Day, but over here, we SEW.

rea mukluks
Calfskin, Beaver, Mouton and Leather with Fleece lining.

A lot.

So, in keeping with the "Celebrate the Boy" month theme, I'm going to give away the boy mukluks. (I made the purple calfskin ones specifically for my niece...ain't she ADORABLE!?)

I made these with Leather (contrasting brown leathers), blue felt and Beaver Trim with a yellow fleece lining. They will fit a chubby 2 month old to a skinny 6 month old! And they're WARM.

Boy mukluks

Here's my BEST thing: Boy's are NOT DRAMATIC. And my boy is just that. Not Dramatic. And I sure do love that!

OK, you have until Saturday the 19th at Midnight ALASKA time to comment to enter. One entry per person, but feel free to comment however many times you want. Oh, and feel free to let people who have babies with cold feet know!

The best thing about boys are you are shaping the life of a provider, hunter, friend, brother, father, son, grandson. =)

I wish i can make mukluks like these for sure..i need to learn and learn quick because having a grandbaby is costing me money..it would be cheaper to just seat down and learn how to put skins together..and to find the time to sit..that would be the hard part

The best thing about boys are they are always there for their moms!

Ok, so I've never commented before, just enjoyed your posts. But I guess there's a first time for everything :) My best thing about my boy is that he's such a sunny, cheerful child, uncomplicated (for the most part) and easy going.

I have 3 daughters and just had my first granbaby on Feb.9, 20l1-a boy! I'm sure I'll experience many AWESOME things about having a boy, but the first one that popped to my mind when my daughter told me she was having a boy, was the fact I could call him IGNIING!!! The other cool thing about having a boy is that he won't come with all the "GIRL"drama I experienced with my girls. I know I'm going to LOVE boys!!!!!

umm, remember Ben? He's VERY dramatic!! ugggh. Someday (we hope) he'll be able to channel all that Drama and he'll be rich and famous!

But what I do love about boys is how they LOVE their mom!

The best thing about my boy is that, even though he is busy, sporty and loves fart jokes, at least once a day he needs a cuddle from me.

New reader here. So impressed with your mukluks. The best thing about boys is that they will still sit on your lap when they are 17.

LOL Oookay, how come I got two, count them, two, Drama Kings, and the daughter is so calm and reasonable?

the best thing about boys is they grow up to be traditional subsistence hunters and they provide for their families and communities!!

Your work is just crazy good, I am amazed all over again. My mother worshiped boys, and told me that she could never really care for me since I was only a girl, so I didn't think much of them as a kid. But then I had a son, and my heart swelled. Most of the little boys I know are spontaneous, full of affection and quick to get over their anger, they seem to choose happiness and not hold grudges; I love their baby kisses and hugs and the joy they take from their loud and grubby little games. I love little girls to pieces, but the best thing about boys is that they are boys!

My package for you is closer to being done! Every time you post some new creation I feel more nervous because you are truly an artist!

I only have a girl, but I just found out I'm pregnant, it COULD be a boy! lol Shhh don't tell anyone yet!

The best thing about boys are those smiles they give you and puppy dog eyes, the ones that make you do anything for them. It usually involves making some food. I love that boys love to eat! At least my husband, brother and nephews are all this way.

Well, I'm not entering for the mukluks, as my Moose boy is almost eleven, BUT I had to comment and say, Doggone, that is one cute baby. For reals. I wanna go "NOMNOMNOM" on her cheeks. Heehee.

The best thing about boys is the trouble they get into! You never know what to expect day to day!!

Let me know if you ever want to do a pattern exchange- you have some fantastic patterns that I would kill to try!

The best thing about boys....when they come in from outside...covered with dirt, mud, grease, manure and whatever else they can find to get in to...jump up in your lap, put theirs arms around your neck and give you a kiss....then snuggling down a bit you more...I hear...I love you Grams....

The best things about boys are very helpful when they grow up and take over when the man of the house is out. I would love to own a pair of your work-new grandbaby will be born in July

I don't have facebook, so I follow you daily on your blog thru adn. I am hooked, you're like crack to me, like how facebook is crack to you =) I look forward everyday to reading your blog and see what wonderful, exciting news you have to report!

I have 2 girls and 1 boy. The best thing about boys are, he says "I love you Mom" everytime he is going to leave the house and everytime we hang up on the phone. This is coming from a 14 yr old!

To win these mukluks from you, would be like getting something from a celebrity! Keep up the good job!

The best thing about boys is that someday they will be not only the protective brothers I am raising them to be, they will also be loving, caring, and attentive husbands, and fathers. My oldest (6) is a very caring and thoughtful child that never gives anyone at school any trouble. He is loving, caring, and attentive to his sisters and fiercely protective of all of his little siblings. My new baby boy will be so much like his brother, I'm certain, but for now, the best thing is the midnight cuddles and the 3 AM feedings where it's just the 2 of us, and he stares deeply into my eyes. Priceless moments are fleeting with this little boy, I'm cherishing every single one.

My baby boy smells sooooo good, has looooong Snuffaluffagus eyelashes, and looked like a little vampire for a few weeks because his two canines came in before his upper two front teeth. The best thing about boys (when comparing to baby girls) is their innate strength and crazy endless energy. He will not stop moving one minute of the day. Keeps this mama hoppin'!

Those are really cool! How much snow do you have to get for it to be a snow day? I'd imagine a LOT!
